Lubeznik Center for the Arts (LCA) will have an Artist Talk with the artists of the current exhibition, "Stiched, Woven and Hooked" on Sunday, May 19, 2024, at 4 p.m. Central. All are welcome to join in on the engaging discussion. Admission is free, as always
Together these revolutionary artists reclaimed the power of the needle and made space to share their stories, their experiences and their masterful artworks.
Join us at the Artist Talk, and meet the artists, listen in on the engaging discussion about their work and even ask questions!
For more information, contact Jessie Sexton, LCA’s Marketing Manager, at (219) 874-4900 or jsexton@lubeznikcenter.org
"Stitched, Woven and Hooked" artists, Melissa Blount, Dorothy Burge, Laurel Izard, Shaqui Reed and Galina Shevchenko will speak about their life and practice relating to the exhibit. Many of the artists in "Stitched, Woven and Hooked" choose to make autobiographical work about their identities, family histories and cultural traditions. These artists research, collect, combine, reimagine, reuse and revisit historical and contemporary textiles and fiber techniques. The materials they employ hold personal significance and draw on individual and collective memory to convey personal narratives, often challenging power dynamics and concepts related to identity. In their work, the personal is political.
