On Saturday December 16th, 2023 from 1PM-4PM, we invite you to join Save the Dunes at the Historic Barker House in Michigan City for an afternoon of festive fun. Co-sponsored by Michigan City Sustainability Commission, this workshop will teach fundamental gift wrapping without plastic, glitter, and waste. Gift wrap accounts for millions of pounds of waste in the United States each year, and alternatives such as brown shipping paper, newspaper or fabric can help save you money and the planet!
Join Em Racine, Save the Dunes’ Community Engagement Coordinator for a hands-on workshop at the festively decorated Barker House, focusing on creating a cohesive wrapping theme with upcycled paper, ribbons, and found and foraged materials. $25 ticket cost covers materials to wrap 2-3 gifts, refreshments, and class fees.
We also encourage you to bring materials(have an old duvet cover that’s collecting dust? How about a stack of brown paper bags?) to use and or share with the class that fit our sustainability goals- wrapping that doesn’t cost the earth!
Coffee & hot cocoa generously donated by FLUID Coffee Roaster & sweet treats made possible through donations from Save the Dunes members.
Save the Dunes was formed under the call to action to ‘save the dunes’ through the establishment of a National Park. In 1966, the National Lakeshore (now named a National Park) was successfully established, and since then it has been Save the Dunes’ mission to ensure its protection through advocacy, conservation efforts, and community engagement.
