MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. - Lubeznik Center for the Arts(LCA) is hosting a free Family Day on Saturday, October 14 from 1 to 3 p.m., and all area families are invited to attend.
Families will create their own scrap book photo albums and embark on a scavenger hunt throughout the galleries.
This free drop-in event allows children and adults to enjoy art making and view artwork in LCA’s three galleries in a relaxed, welcoming environment. Family Days are particularly engaging for school-age children and their parents or caregivers. However, all ages are welcome to attend. Free snacks will be provided, and no advance registration is required.
Free Family Day offers children and adults opportunities to connect with each other while exploring LCA’s current exhibition, "Vivian Maier: In Color."
Centered on the Chicago History Museum’s new Vivian Maier collection, "Vivian Maier: In Color" features 50 color prints spanning the late 1950s through the 1970s. A discerning amateur photographer, Maier took thousands of pictures throughout her life, refining her craft through her explorations around Chicago. Maier took everyday moments and transformed them into something extraordinary. Maier died before her life’s work was shared with the world. She left behind hundreds of prints, 100,000 negatives and about a thousand rolls of undeveloped film, which were discovered when a collector purchased the contents of her storage lockers. There is no proof she ever made a concerted effort to show her work to any dealers or other artists?gifting us the mystery of an elusive woman behind the camera.
Also on display during Family Day is art by Natasha Moustache, zakkiyyah najeebah dumas o’neal, Laurie Schirmer Carpenter and Purple Window Gallery Members.
