Great summers start at the Club! For the first time ever, Boys & Girls Clubs of La Porte County (BGCLPC) will be offering its popular summer camp at two locations - the Charles R. Westcott Club at 321 Detroit Street in Michigan City, and the Kesling Campus at 306 East 18th Street in La Porte.
BGCLPC is a non-profit organization providing youth development programming that supports Academic Success, Character & Citizenship and Healthy Lifestyles. Its jam-packed summer schedule includes field trips, gym time, outdoor activities, STEM enrichment, arts & crafts and much more. Camp operates weekdays from 7:45 AM to 4:30 PM and is open to children in kindergarten through 8th grades during the 2022/2023 school year. This program is offered free of charge to ensure an amazing summer camp experience is within reach of every child.
The addition of a second camp site in La Porte follows BGCLPC’s successful launch of new Clubs at Lincoln Elementary School, Brighton Street Green Space and the Kesling Campus earlier this year. The organization will also increase its summertime capacity at its Michigan City location, which served 149 children during the summer of 2022.
“Providing local kids with a safe, fun place to be when area schools are not in session is a critical part of our mission,” says Michelle Shirk, BGCLPC Chief Executive Officer. “Thanks to the generosity of our supporters and our ongoing partnerships with Michigan City Area Schools and La Porte Community School Corporation, we expect to serve more than 300 children through our 2023 summer camp program. We are looking forward to our best summer yet!”
