ShareTweetReturn to ListingMICHIGAN CITY ANNOUNCES SPECIAL EVENTS FOR 2023!Michigan City, IN01/12/2023 10:03 AMFOR IMMEDIATE RELEASEMICHIGAN CITY ANNOUNCES SPECIAL EVENTS FOR 2023!MICHIGAN CITY, IN, January 10, 2023-Michigan City Special Events and Mayor Duane Parry are excited to announcethe 2023 Michigan City Special Events schedule, highlighted by the return of The Singing Sands Sand Sculpting Festival andOktoberfest."Last year we had an incredible event line-up," said Mayor Parry. "The Singing Sands Sand Sculpting Festival was a hugesuccess and we are confident that the event will grow and become one of the premiere events in the region. Our paradesare getting bigger and better, and the return of Oktoberfest shows we are bouncing back and moving forward. MichiganCity is the place to be!"Eight major events will shape the Michigan City Special Events schedule, beginning with the annual Michigan City St.Patrick's Day Parade on March 11. The parade will follow the traditional Franklin St. route, heading north from 9th St. to4th St. Next on the schedule will be the Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 8, held in Washington Park.The return of the Singing Sands Sand Sculpting Festival is set for June 9-11 in Washington Park, bringing back some of theworld's most talented sand sculptors to create beautiful works of art and showcase Michigan City's beautiful lakefront."We are so excited to bring this sand sculpting event back," said Special Events Director Terry Greetham. "In addition tothe master and semi-professional competition we will be announcing a new amateur competition which will allow localgroups, organizations and companies to compete for a chance to win money for their favorite local charity. Not only willthis create a lot of excitement around the event, but it will allow us to give back to those community organizations thatneed our support," he said.The annual patriotic celebration will follow, beginning with the Kiddie Parade on Saturday, June 24, the Patriotic Paradeon Saturday, July 1, capped off by the Fireworks Spectacular in Washington Park on Tuesday, July 4.Labor Day weekend, September 1-4, will again see the return of Oktoberfest to Washington Park. Last year's event wasanother huge success and the plan for 2023 is bigger and better. "Oktoberfest made a great return last year, and we areready to take it to the next level," Greetham said. "We want to expand the vendor area, bring in a few more food options,and hopefully have some more options for the kids. We have a lot of work to do, but I think we have a great foundationto build on."The final event on the City's special event schedule will be the Festival of Lights Celebration on December 2. The Festivalof Lights Parade will again welcome Santa Claus followed by the lighting of the Christmas Tree. The celebration willcontinue with the annual Chili Challenge and much more.In addition to the Michigan City Special Events sponsored activities will be the Shelf Ice Brewfest on February 25, presentedby the Michigan City Main Street Association.
