Lubeznik Center for the Arts (LCA) is hosting an Artist Talk with exhibitors Shirley Guay, Rosalie Koldan and Kelly Daisy. Learn all about the work in their exhibits on April 7, 2024 at 1 PM Central in LCA's NIPSCO Art Education Studios.

Collaboration by Shirley Guay and Rosalie Koldan consists of paintings and assemblages, and Collective Perception features paintings by Kelly Daisy.

Visual artist Shirley Guay was born in Chicago. After having travelled the United States, she now calls Amboy, Illinois home. She paints in a style she refers to as "abstract realism," combining patterns, colors and textures with symbolic images of Black American life. She attended Harold Washington College and studied extensively with her mentor Anna Lee Hultgren. Shirley has exhibited at the Museum of Science and Industry's Black Creativity Show and the Freeport Arts Museum. She is in the permanent collections of Kishwaukee College, Lowell H.S. Fine Arts Collection, the Loveland Museum and many private collections.

Rosalie Koldan is an assemblage artist who also lives in Amboy, Illinois. Primarily a self-taught artist, she strives to widen her knowledge through her research into various cultures, techniques and processes. Political, social and environmental issues often find its way into the artwork.

Kelly Daisyis a self taught abstract artist working in acrylic on canvas. Collective Perception explores the dichotomy between society's perception of women and the perceptions they have of themselves. Over time, both have evolved in a push-pull tug of war, fueling the battle toward equal rights. Collective Perception reflects the need for women to push back against societal conditioning. This exhibit inspects places in time that are pertinent markers of where we have been and revealing how far we still have to go.
