WHAT: Following a final, private Mass for staff in the chapel, Franciscan Health Crown Point will officially close its hospital at 1201 S. Main St. and open the new hospital at Interstate 65 and U.S. 231. The emergency departments will synchronize closing and opening at 6 a.m. Central and patients will be transported via Superior Ambulance Service and Franciscan Health ambulance from the existing hospital to the new hospital beginning at 8 a.m. Central. Franciscan is being assisted in the move by Health Care Relocations (HCR), a third-party vendor specializing in hospital moves. The City of Crown Point will be assisting by moving nurses from the old hospital to the new hospital in city trolleys as well.
WHERE:
From the existing Franciscan Health Crown Point
1201 S. Main St. Crown Point, Ind.
To the new Franciscan Health Crown Point
12750 Saint Francis Drive (corner of U.S. 231 & I- 65)
Crown Point, Ind.
WHEN: Sunday, Jan. 28, 2024 Press arrival: 7:30 a.m. Central at the admitting entrance of the existing campus (adjacent to the emergency room entrance facing Court Street) or the lobby of the main entrance of the new hospital NOTE: Please note that while press is welcome at the Main St. hospital, they will have more space and likely get better shots at the new hospital.
WHY:The patient move is part of the process of closing the existing hospital and opening the new hospital. Patients will begin being placed into Superior Ambulance Service and Franciscan Health ambulances and being transported to the new hospital from the existing hospital’s admitting entrance (next to the emergency room facing Court Street) around 8 a.m. and begin arriving at the new hospital’s main entrance shortly thereafter. The hospitals are roughly 4 miles or 10 minutes away from each other. Press may convene at either location but your best shots will likely be at the new hospital. The exact number of patients being transported will not be available until the day of the move.
VISUALS:Last patients leaving the existing hospital and first patients arriving at the new hospital as well as nurses arriving at the new hospital in city trolleys. Please note that patients who have consented to being photographed or recorded via video will be clearly designated with green blankets and will be among the first to be transported. Franciscan media relations staff will be on hand at both locations to assist you.
