Leadership La Porte County is pleased to announce the formation of a new initiative to introduce high school students to a deeper understanding of philanthropy, servant leadership and civic engagement in La Porte County. Called the Youth Advisory Council, the program seeks to gather students in grades 9 through 12, in a hands-on, fun environment to serve the needs of the county in a meaningful way, and to provide a youth voice in the community.
An informational meeting for interested students is taking place at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 27, 2023 at South Central High School, located at 9808 S. 600 W., Union Mills. This meeting is the second in a series of meetings throughout the county to reach interested students. A previous meeting was held in La Porte, and a future meeting is planned in Michigan City.
“The Youth Advisory Council was formed to offer an inclusive environment for students to engage in activities to amplify their voice in the community and to encourage servant leadership as well as civic engagement,” stated Monica Komasinski, Executive Director of Leadership La Porte County. “It is our hope that we can mobilize a strong group of students to be involved and engaged citizens,” she concluded. T
here is no cost for students to participate and all La Porte County students are welcome. The group will be gathering members for a formal kickoff event in August.
