La Porte, April 2024-- Anam Cara Counseling is excited to participate in the third, sector-wide awareness and fundraising campaign, Seen Through Horses 2024.
Mental health does not discriminate. It touches every person alive either personally or through a loved one. One in five people in the U.S. will be affected by mental illness in their life. Every 40 seconds, someone dies by suicide and depression is the number one cause of disability worldwide. Two-thirds of people with a mental illness never seek help, and of those who do, only about 50% find traditional talk therapy successful (NAMI, 2020).
The good news is, we can begin to change these statistics. One solution that is making a profound difference are horses and we believe these services should be available to everyone to make a much-needed difference for the mental health challenges so many in our world face.
Anam Cara Counseling is among 80 nonprofit organizations convening as benefactors in the Seen Through Horse Campaign, a peer-to-peer campaign launching May 1-31, 2024. Seen Through Horses is composed of individuals, nonprofits, mental health professionals, influencers, and businesses to increase awareness, public engagement, and raise funds to improve access to programs incorporating horses for mental health and personal growth.

Anam Cara, a La Porte-based nonprofit, specializes in healing emotional wounds within the community. It offers unique therapy options including Trauma-Focused Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP), where horses are invited into the therapeutic process. All engagement is conducted from the ground, emphasizing connection and choice, with no riding or horse experience required. By partnering with horses, clients experience transformative healing through experiential therapy. This approach, facilitated by a licensed mental health professional, Equine Specialist, and a herd of horses, leverages the innate ability of horses to co-regulate with humans, promoting deep healing.
