La Porte, IN - April 2024 -- Horses can make a much-needed difference for the mental health challenges so many in our world face. Anam Cara's mission is to help people and the community heal from emotional wounds; cultivate resiliency; & promote mental wellness. One of the great ways we are expanding access to mental health services incorporating horses is by providing monthly opportunities to experience the healing presence of horses on a donation basis, pay what you can if you can, at one of our monthly groups: Support-Healing-Empowerment women’s circle, Hero’s Club for veterans, military service members, first responders and their families, or a herd meditation.
Anam Cara is among 75+ nonprofit organizations convening as benefactors in the Seen Through Horse Campaign, a peer-to-peer campaign launching May 1-31, 2024 to raise funds and improve access to mental health services and programs incorporating horses.
“I am a chiropractor and wellness coach with a love of animals and a lifelong dream of spending more time with horses. I grew up riding and showing horses and always felt that the most satisfying thing was to just spend time with them. Now I understand that the reason is their healing energy. Supporting Adam Cara is one way I can stay tapped in to the amazing healing potential of equines and the people who love them.” - Dr. Tracey Curtis, Anam Cara’s Board Secretary
Donations raised will directly go towards impacting our organization, programs, and services including, building stalls and caring for our equine partners, offsetting costs for donation-based programs like the veterans group and herd meditations, and scholarships for those who otherwise wouldn’t be able to access equine-assisted services.
As we galvanize the equine and mental health sectors around one goal, we encourage you to choose Anam Cara Counseling to support before and during the campaign, May 1-31, 2024 by visiting Anam Cara's Fundraising profile here, and making a donation.
Together we can make a bigger impact fundraising together than if it were done alone.
About Anam Cara Counseling
Anam Cara, a La Porte-based nonprofit, specializes in healing emotional wounds within the community. It offers unique therapy options including Trauma-Focused Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP), where horses are invited into the therapeutic process. All engagement is conducted from the ground, emphasizing connection and choice, with no riding or horse experience required. By partnering with horses, clients experience transformative healing through experiential therapy. This approach, facilitated by a licensed mental health professional, Equine Specialist, and a herd of horses, leverages the innate ability of horses to co-regulate with humans, promoting deep healing. Anam Cara's holistic approach incorporates sensory experiences and movement, tapping into the nervous systems of both humans and horses to foster healing from the ground up. Research demonstrates the profound impact of equine therapy in facilitating co-regulation, essential for emotional self-regulation and healing from attachment wounds. Traditional Mental health counseling services are also provided at Anam Cara and include evidence-based treatment modalities such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Somatic experiencing, etc.
