La Porte, April 2024 – Horses have been incorporated into various human health and wellness services for many years, however involving horses within the context of mental health is relatively new. Horses can make a big difference for the mental health challenges so many people face and help them transform in a safe and powerful way. That’s why Anam Cara Counseling, with the help of title sponsor Zoetis Equine, and executive producer, Horses for Mental Health are thrilled to announce the Seen Through Horses campaign will be returning for a third year.

Seen Through Horses is a peer-to-peer awareness campaign in which people, non-profits, mental health specialists, celebrities, influencers and businesses help to increase awareness, public engagement and raise funds to improve access to programs incorporating horses into mental health and personal growth services. The campaign is set to run the entire month of May 2024.

In 2023, the second Seen Through Horses campaign garnered support from equestrians of all levels, including celebrities like lifelong horseman Randy Travis, Grammy Winner, Tanya Tucker and Yellowstone actor, Forrie J Smith, and many others. It also raised over $120,000 for non-profit organizations who transform lives through horses. The 2024 campaign, which will take place May 1-31, is on track to be even bigger than last year, with 81 nonprofit organizations as Charity Partners.

Anam Cara's mission is to help people and the community heal from emotional wounds; cultivate resilience; & promote mental wellness. We provide counseling, EMDR, Trauma-Focused Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy™, Equine-Assisted Services, & other healing modalities.

“We are so excited to be joining this nationwide campaign again this year to raise awareness of how horses help people heal. I simply love the collaboration and support of Zoetis and Horses for Mental Health to help end the stigma of mental health services as well as raise awareness of the transformational and experiential healing horses have to offer.” - Stacey Garcelon, LMHCA, NCC, Executive Director.

About Anam Cara Counseling

Anam Cara, a La Porte-based nonprofit, specializes in healing emotional wounds within the community. It offers unique therapy options including Trauma-Focused Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP), where horses are invited into the therapeutic process.  All engagement is conducted from the ground, emphasizing connection and choice, with no riding or horse experience required. By partnering with horses, clients experience transformative healing through experiential therapy. This approach, facilitated by a licensed mental health professional, Equine Specialist, and a herd of horses, leverages the innate ability of horses to co-regulate with humans, promoting deep healing. Anam Cara's holistic approach incorporates sensory experiences and movement, tapping into the nervous systems of both humans and horses to foster healing from the ground up. Research demonstrates the profound impact of equine therapy in facilitating co-regulation, essential for emotional self-regulation and healing from attachment wounds.Traditional Mental health counseling services are also provided at Anam Cara and include evidence-based treatment modalities such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Somatic experiencing, etc.
