In the All Service
Division, which includes JROTC schools of all services, MCHS finished third
behind two Civil Air Patrol schools, and above all JROTC schools. Civil Air Patrol focuses on an aerospace
curriculum, whereas JROTC is primarily a leadership program.
In
CyberPatriot, competitors act as cyber security managers, who must defend
against, and counter attack, against a cyber attack.
“Our
program provides guidance as to the many possible careers where they could
become leaders,” said Senior Marine Instructor Major Tom McGrath. “The need for cyber security experts will
only expand in the future. CyberPatriot
provides a great opportunity for cadets to investigate entering this very
lucrative career.”
Master
Sergeant Jeff Benak, the Marine Instructor, recognized the expertise provided by
faculty advisor Ralph Gee, the Engineering and Technology Instructor at
MCHS. “Ralph is such a knowledgeable
teacher who is able to provide technical and tactical guidance for our cadets
to perform well in this competitive environment.”
This
year’s team was composed of 1 senior, 1 sophomore, and 3 freshmen. McGrath is optimistic that the team will grow
next year. It is open to students of all
grades, but they must be enrolled in the MCJROTC. There is no cost for this or any other
MCJROTC extracurricular activity.
