Position Overview:
As a JOYRide Pedi-Cab Driver, you’ll serve as a friendly guide to Michigan City, ensuring our guests have safe, fun and memorable experiences. This role is perfect for outgoing individuals who enjoy meeting new people, exploring the city, and sharing their knowledge of local hotspots, history, and attractions.
Rides are typically 8-10 minutes long and focus on connecting people to Michigan City’s top points of interest. Drivers are responsible for providing excellent service, operating electric trikes responsibly, and maintaining a welcoming and upbeat atmosphere.
Key Responsibilities:
Shift Operations & Communication:
- Punctually report to the Lead Shift Driver and clock in for your shift.
- Perform pre-ride inspections to ensure the trike is safe, clean and in excellent condition – see the shift open/close checklist. (adjust the seat, adjust mirrors, apply name sign panel to the cab)
- Communicate with JOYRide dispatch and guests to ensure timely and effective pickups.
- Respond to pickup requests via text or call from Dispatch, balancing on-the-spot riders and pre-scheduled pickups.
Guest Service:
- Greet passengers warmly and engage in friendly, professional conversation.
- Be curious: Understand guests’ interests and recommend destinations, activities, or events they might enjoy.
- Provide an exceptional ride experience while prioritizing safety and hospitality.
Payment Handling:
- Collect fares and process payments using Square, ensuring accurate transactions.
- Submit cash for any cash fares collected at the end of your shift.
Community Engagement & Promotion:
- Make rounds to heavily attended events and venues to promote JOYRide’s services.
- Distribute promotional literature and represent JOYRide positively at community events, such as parades, festivals, and private bookings.
Shift Wrap-Up:
- Survey the trike and wipe off any obvious footprints or marks.
- Empty the trike pocket of all personal belongings and rubbish, and remove your sign panel from the back of the cab.
- Clock out, plug-in rechargeable equipment, and clean the trike after your shift to maintain cleanliness and prepare for the next driver.
Requirements and Skills:
- Must be 21 or over with a valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
- Ability to pedal and operate an electric-assist trike for 4-hour shifts (minimal physical effort required). Our pedicabs have electric pedal assist (if you can shift a bike gear, you can operate our pedicabs.)
- Self-managing and responsible; adaptability to changing conditions and environments. Must be able to resolve challenges that arise and troubleshoot solutions.
- Positive attitude, strong communication skills, outgoing yet calm demeanor, sense of humor and dedication to our guest’s satisfaction.
- Familiarity with Michigan City or a willingness to learn about its attractions and landmarks.
- Reliable and able to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Previous experience in hospitality, tourism, or transportation is a plus but not required.
