Monthly Senior Hours Added at Lubeznik Center for the Arts
Michigan City, IN
05/12/2023 08:22 AM

(LCA) has added dedicated, monthly Senior Hours to its schedule in honor of Older Americans Month, which is May.

Senior Hours will be held on the first Wednesday of each month from 10:30 a.m. to noon starting Wednesday, June 7. Admission to LCA is always free, including during Senior Hours, and no appointment or reservation is required.

This dedicated timeframe is for senior citizens to browse LCA galleries without the presences of large crowds or other tour groups. Seniors are welcome to look at art in LCA’s three galleries and NIPSCO Education Studios, socialize with others their age and enjoy complimentary coffee and pastries. LCA will have staff on hand to answer any questions senior citizens may have about the artwork or the center itself. LCA’s Gallery Shop will also be open for our visitors to shop handmade items crafted by local artisans.

“We are so excited to do something special for seniors in our community. Having a dedicated time and serving snacks adds a bit more hospitality to their visit. It says ‘welcome, we were expecting you!’,” said Janet Bloch, LCA’s executive director.

Groups from senior centers, assisted living facilities and other organizations are welcome.

Free gallery tours are available for small groups of six or more but must be set up ahead of time. To schedule a docent-led tour, contact Bloch, at (219) 874-4900 or jbloch@lubeznikcenter.org .

For more information, contact Samantha Bean, LCA’s marketing manager, at (219) 874-4900 or sbean@lubeznikcenter.org .

About Older Americans Month

Established in 1963, Older Americans Month (OAM) is celebrated every May. Led by the Administration for Community Living (ACL), OAM is a time for us to acknowledge the contributions and achievements of older Americans, highlight important trends and strengthen our commitment to honoring our older citizens. This May is the 60th anniversary of OAM and its challenge of the narrative on aging.
