A new
renovation project at 711 Franklin St. will link commercial and retail space to
a proposed city plaza.
The spot
will include first-floor spaces to lease that will range in sizes from 860 to
1800 square feet and face an area pegged to provide space for public
gatherings, including concerts, festivals and shows.
“The plaza
will create a space for friends and families to create memories. With the
progress happening in Michigan City, we feel such a spot is a vital and
important piece of the puzzle for the future growth of the downtown area,” said
building owner Nazar Kryvko.
The project
includes a complete renovation of the spaces, including work on water and
sewage, electric components, roofing, windows, HVAC and wood façade for a
complete update. Space plans include individual glass overhead garage doors
that open onto a patio or deck for the upper units.
“As the
heart of any city, we are excited to see additional options for commercial
space being developed in our downtown,” said Economic Development Corporation
Michigan City Executive Director Clarence L. Hulse. “It is always a milestone
when old buildings are given new life and an updated purpose for our city’s
future path.”
“We
continue to see a surge of commitment to our community as we enter 2025 with
progress on projects and developments,” said Michigan
City Mayor Angie Nelson Deuitch. “A plaza and commercial offerings provide
another avenue to put our city on the map and propel momentum.”
Kryvko
envisions the development bolstering business opportunities downtown as he
continues to take an active role in the future of Michigan City. He is behind
additional developments, including the former Red Head Building, 4411 Inn &
Suites, long-term rental properties and the Beachwood subdivision.
“We have
been investing in Michigan City since 2012 when we first came here and fell in
love with this beautiful city,” Kryvko said. “We knew from Day One that this
city has a blend of unique factors and will prosper to be one of the best
destinations to live or enjoy in Northwest Indiana.”
