POSITION SUMMARY: The Program Coordinator oversees the development and operations of various programs, such as healthy living, aquatics, youth & family, sports, and/or other programs and designs and practices, processes, and procedures for strong program and project management.
Requirements

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Fulfill Y’s mission to provide inclusive and equitable programming that strengthens the overall health and wellbeing of our community.
  2. Promote and incorporate the YMCA’s core values and mission into all aspects of the job in the community.
  3. Develops, implements, and manages operating plans to promote program and/or membership growth.
  4. Measures progress against strategic goals and ensures continuous improvement.
  5. Assures compliance with state and location regulations.
  6. Ensures that program standards are met, and safety procedures are followed.
  7. Develops and controls department budgets related to the position so that resources are devoted to top priorities and strategic objectives.
  8. Uses data to analyze financial trends and forecast future financial progress for the organization.
  9. Hires, trains, and supervises staff and volunteers in assigned areas.  
  10. Organizes people and activities for efficiency and effectiveness.
  11. Ensures high quality member-focused programs through innovative program development, demonstrating courageous and intelligent risk taking with awareness of societal, economic, and political issues and their impact on the strategic direction of the organization.
  12. Rewards and recognizes new and relevant ideas and approaches even if not successful.
  13. Leads the La Porte branch in the Y’s Annual Campaign, successfully meeting agreed upon goals and expectations.
  14. Develops a pool of volunteers to help in the success of special events, advisory boards, and fundraising.
  15. Serve as a member of the Association Leadership Team
  16. Participate as an active team member for overall advancement of the Association.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Works effectively with people of different backgrounds, abilities, opinions and perceptions.
  2. Must be at least 21 years of age.
  3. Must maintain a current motor vehicle license and acceptable driving record that meets YMCA standards.
  4. Experience in human services, social services, recreation, or sports equivalent.
  5. YMCA Team Leader certification preferred.
  6. Four or more years of program management experience, preferably in a YMCA or other non-profit agency.  Four-year college degree preferred but will consider equivalent combination of education/work experience.
  7. Ability to direct programs through supervising volunteers and staff, development and monitoring of budgets, marketing and public relations, program development, and fundraising. Must exhibit excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  8. Required trainings:
    1. Within 30 days of hire:     Child Abuse Prevention (West Bend online).
    2. Within 30 days of hire:     Blood Borne Pathogens (West Bend online).
    3. Within 60 days of hire:     CPR and First Aid
    4. Within 90 days of hire:     Listen First and Y Welcome
    5. Within 120 days of hire:   CPO Certification
  9. Basic computer skills with knowledge and experience with Google platforms and Microsoft Office. 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing duties of this job, the employee is often required to:  climb stairs, bend, stoop, kneel, twist, reach with hands, sit stand for an extended period of time, climb ladders, walk, shovel snow, plow snow, lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, have finger dexterity, grasp, perform repetitive motions, talk, hear, and have visual acuity.
  2. The employee may be exposed to cleaning chemicals and may be exposed to pool chemicals as well.
  3. The work is performed both indoors and out and may require travel to various locations.
  4. While performing the duties of this job the employee will be exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time and will be exposed to hot and cold conditions.
  5. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close & distant vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to focus.

EFFECT ON END RESULT:  

The degree to which there is continued participation and satisfaction with the condition of the facilities and equipment.   All mechanical systems are working smoothly and efficiently.  Inspections are completed with a feeling of high satisfaction concerning building comfort and cleanliness.  The staff is working in harmony with one another and is an integral part of the total operation.


ADDENDUM

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Monitors daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations.
  2. Maintains accurate records of pool chemical levels, facility maintenance, and staff certifications
  3. Conducts and ensures proper maintenance of pools.
  4. Secures and schedules pool facilities.
  5. Attain Lifeguard Instructor and Certified Pool Operator certifications within 3 months
  6. Conducts lifeguarding, swim instruction, First Aid and CPR trainings.
  7. Plan, organize, and oversee all aquatic programs, including swim lessons, water fitness, and special events.
  8. Maintain a safe and clean aquatic facility, ensuring compliance with all health and safety regulations.
  9. Conduct regular pool inspections, including water chemistry testing, equipment maintenance, and risk assessments.
  10. Ensure all lifeguards and aquatic staff follow safety protocols and emergency procedures.  Conducts monthly lifeguard in-services.
