The Barker Mansion: Contributors Corner
Michigan City, IN

Hello, Fellow History Lovers!

Working at the Barker Mansion brings me immense joy, particularly as a volunteer in the newly established Lower-Level Exhibit dedicated to the workers of the Haskell & Barker Car Company. This connection holds special significance for me, given that my father, grandfather, and great-grandfather collectively devoted over 100 years to the company. The Mansion now features an exhibit highlighting the contributions of these three generations to the company.

I take pleasure in recounting stories to visitors about the intertwined histories of the Barker and Rogers families, both in their professional and social spheres. My father, in particular, shared many anecdotes with me. One memorable tale involves him and other children playing "hide and seek" in the ballroom on the third floor of the Mansion, while their parents gathered for a social event downstairs.

Moreover, I find fulfillment in sharing the vibrant history of Michigan City, emphasizing the profound impact the Barker Family and the Car Works had on our hometown. It's a delightful experience to contribute to preserving and narrating the rich legacy of this community. Respectfully Submitted, Kirk Rogers
