Edgar Allan Poe and October make for the perfect pair, and now it is time for you to enjoy Nevermore: The Imaginary Life and Mysterious Death of Edgar Allan Poe by Jonathan Christenson at Holdcraft Performing Arts Center. Nevermore is a musical about one of the United States’ most well-known poets and the creator of the detective novel. The semi-biographic musical follows Poe’s life of successes and setbacks, sorrows and joys of his life’s journey as the child of a theatrical mother whose career was more important than her children, and an alcoholic father who left the children and his wife, then fostered by the Allans, Edgar learns many of life’s lessons, the hard way. He enjoys success and tragedy, but throughout his life, he forms those loves, losses, and lessons into becoming the creative genius we all know and love today.

This fanciful story weaves its way through Edgar’s life intertwined with many references of his works, both poems and stories. The memorable songs and music guide the story and help bring Edgar’s adventures to life. As assistant director, Jill Thomas, stated, “This is like nothing you have ever seen. A wonderful integration of Poe’s life and his works. It’s fun, sad, and inspiring, all lead by incredible music.”

The cast consists of talent from all over Northwest Indiana. The actors play several roles, except Alexander Bonner of Trail Creek, who plays Edgar Allan Poe. Other cast members include: Jay Swindell from Michigan City, Tom Olsen of Valparaiso, Louie Maldonado of Michigan City, Alexus Passmore of Westville, Kyrie Stratton of Michigan City, Auriel Felsecker of Miller, Emily Gross of Westville, Rebecca Richmond of Michigan City, Jillian Davison of Valparaiso, and George Romero of Valparaiso.
