On Friday, December 4 from 10am to 4pm, Realtors from the La Porte County Association of Realtors will partner with The Salvation Army locations in La Porte County by ringing a bell at the iconic red kettles.

Realtors will ring in Michigan City at both Al’s Supermarkets locations (Franklin Street and Karwick Plaza); and in La Porte at both Kroger locations as well as Al’s Supermarket.

Realtor Ring Day is a national effort during which Realtors across the country come together in support of The Salvation Army’s efforts to help those less fortunate during the holidays.

“The La Porte County Association of Realtors wanted to give their members an opportunity to support a cause familiar to them: housing. The Salvation Army is a perfect fit because it offers so many housing-related programs,” said Iris Muccigrosso, executive officer for the La Porte County Association of Realtors.

“Families and children don’t always have a place to call home. The Salvation Army provides programs to help the homeless. Many veterans often find themselves homeless, and a donation can help provide shelter for a veteran. We wanted to give back to our community, and ringing the bells is a great way to interact and raise funds – even during a pandemic,” she said.

Red kettle funds raised through Realtor Ring Day in Michigan City and La Porte will remain in their respective communities to help fund programs at The Salvation Army.

Captain Chris Karlin of The Salvation Army of La Porte said, “We are so appreciative of the Realtors for stepping up and rescuing Christmas for the citizens of La Porte County. We are so thankful for their willingness to raise these much-needed funds so that we can continue serving La Porte County.”

Major Dale Simmons of The Salvation Army of Michigan City agreed, saying, “Every Christmas we rely on the generous support of our community to help meet our Christmas Campaign goal. This allows us to serve hundreds of families who are struggling right now due to the COVID-19 pandemic during the holidays and throughout the year.”

Funds raised through red kettles help support several programs of The Salvation Army in both Michigan City and La Porte including food pantries, utility assistance, Pathway of Hope case management, and more.
