Reins of Life Is Recruiting Volunteers to Feed Horses
Michigan City, IN
03/20/2020 08:20 AM

Would you like a new opportunity to give back to your community? Check out Reins of Life! They are a 501 (c) (3) non-profit therapeutic horseback riding center serving children and adults with disabilities. Equine-assisted activities and therapies benefit people with myriad conditions from autism to Alzheimer’s to cerebral palsy. Reins provides services for students in La Porte County schools, veterans, and many individuals in the Michiana area.

Volunteers are crucial to every aspect of operations. While our normal activities are cancelled due to the COVID-19 virus, our horses are still hungry! Our herd is fed twice a day every day of the year. Feeders generally work a two-hour shift every week with the same group of volunteers. Feeding volunteers must be at least 16 years old. No horse experience is needed, and on-the-job training is provided.

Feeding occurs in the mornings from around 7-9, and in the afternoons from around 3:30-5:30. It requires walking, carrying around 10 pounds, sweeping, shoveling, and being in the elements. Rain boots are recommended for the muddy springtime pastures.

Reins of Life is located at 9375 W. 300 N., Michigan City, IN. Please dress for the weather and wear waterproof boots. If interested, RSVP to Beth at 219-276-7849 or Learn more about Reins of Life at
