PNW unveils 19th Annual Odyssey Sculpture and Art Exhibit
Westville, IN
10/19/2017 09:46 AM
Purdue University Northwest (PNW) is celebrating the 19th Odyssey Sculpture and Art Exhibit with a public reception on Saturday, Nov. 4 at 5:00 pm (CDT) in the James B. Dworkin Student Services and Activities Complex (DSAC), located on the Westville campus, 1401 S. U.S. Highway 421.

The event will debut a multi-piece contemporary sculpture exhibit and new art collections. Guests are encouraged to come early and take self-guided tours of the more than 30 works of art located in the DSAC. Formal remarks and a visual program will begin at 5:30 p.m. with an introduction by Chancellor Thomas L. Keon.

The reception is free and open to the public. Many artists are expected to attend to meet and greet the public.

“Our campuses have vastly more space to develop extensive collections, both inside the many buildings and outside on the grounds of the campuses. More than 15 noted artists have contributed or loaned distinctive works in the last year,” said PNW Assistant Vice Chancellor of University Art Collections and Special Programs Judy Jacobi. “In addition to the debut of new sculptures on the 269-acre Westville campus grounds, several new outdoor pieces have been strategically sited on the Hammond campus, among the manicured lawns and flowers.”

The PNW campuses house a number of exciting indoor sculptures, 3-dimensional works, paintings and photographs by noted artists.

“That we do not have galleries exclusively devoted to the exhibition of art on either campus is an absolute advantage,” says Jacobi. “Our goal is to ensure that great art will be an integral part of the educational experience of all. This extends, of course, to any group wishing to take a tour, including school children.”

While the majority of the more than 50 indoor and outdoor sculptures are leased, many have been given to the university by the artists, themselves.

New sculptures at the campuses include:
·         “Dodge” by Eric Stephenson
·         “Cash and Crown” by Eric Fuertes
·         “La Metal Carnival” by Oakley Gregory
·         “Valence and Aplomb” by Andrew Light
·         “Water” by Teresa Lind
·         “Borbor #11” by William Vannerson
·         “Florette” by Sam Spiczka
·         “Composite Likeness #7” by Herbert George
·         “Verona Sphere” by Karl Geckler
·         “Heraldic Taunt” by Terrence Karpowicz
·         “Windfighter” by S. Thomas Scarff
·         “ho-MA-ge” by Richard Kiebdaj
·         “Rise” by David Noguchi

Noted painters, photographers and textile artists who have recently either donated or made their works available to Purdue University Northwest include Tom Brand, Frank Dudley, Winifred Godfrey, John Himmelfarb, Lialia Kuchma, Sandra Perlow, Christine Perri, Corey Postiglione, Jim Pryzdia, Kay Smith, Robert Stanley, Carole Stodder, Bobby Talamine, Mel Theobald, Lee Tracy, Andrei Troshkov, Gennady Troshkov, and John Pitman Weber.
